On December 7, 2019, Shenzhen MicroBT released a bitcoin mining machine video of the Whatsminer M30S, announcing the successful launch of the new generation of the Whatsminer M30, both the computing power of the whole machine and the unit power consumption of the computing power set new industry records!

Cybtc received the engineering prototype of the M30S-88T bitcoin mining machine. The following Cybtc team will bring you a third-party independent evaluation of the M30S-88T bitcoin mining machine.

Whatsminer M30S-88T outer package is relatively simple (because the engineering prototype temporarily uses M20S outer packaging). The overall machine package size is 485x230x355mm and the logistics weight is 11.4kg, which is a little lighter than the Shenma M20S-68T (12.3kg) ▼

The overall appearance of the Whatsminer M30S-88T is the same as the M20S-68T, and it is still a single-cylinder design. The appearance size is 390x150x225mm and the weight is 10.5kg ▼


The difference between the Whatsminer M30S-88T and M20S-68T is that the power supply is replaced with a flat style, which reduces the height of the whole machine by 15mm, and the weight of the whole machine is 0.9kg lighter than the M20S-68T ▼

The whole machine uses one inlet, one outlet and two fans for cooling, and the air inlet fan is equipped with a metal protective cover. It is caused by the metal protective cover pressing the fan blades, as long as the metal protective cover is pulled out a little) ▼



Whatsminer M30S-88T internal details

Next, let’s explore the inside details of the Whatsminer M30S-88T which broke the new record of the industry’s power consumption. To remove the control board, remove the 4 fixing screws first. Then, remove the power supply regulator line on the control board and the data line connected to the hash board Detachable control board ▼


Whatsminer M30S-88T uses the H3 control board, which is connected to the mining board through the cable of the adapter board. The panel interface and buttons have not changed ▼

Whatsminer M30S-88T comes with a standard power supply model P21-GB-12-3300 ▼


Whatsminer M30S-88T power supply has made some changes in the shape. Compared with the previous model, the height is reduced, and the length is extended to the position aligned with the air outlet fan. ▼


The Whatsminer M30S-88T uses a 16A power cord to supply power, and the socket position is also adjusted to the middle ▼


In addition to the changes in the shape of the power supply, the connection of copper plate, exhaust ventilation, and fixing screws are similar to the M20 series ▼



The cooling of Whatsminer M30S-88T uses two 14038 12V 7.2A fans ▼


According to the current stated  (7.2A), the fan power consumption of the Whatsminer M30S-88T is lower than that of the M20 series (9A), which not only reduces the small power consumption but also indicates that the noise will be smaller.

The front fan uses a 6-core flat interface, and the rear fan uses a 4 Pin interface. It can be seen that the two front and rear fans of the miner cannot exchange to each other ▼

The Whatsminer M30S-88T chassis is made of aluminum alloy die-casting, and the mining board is inserted and fixed through the groove, which is closely arranged ▼


Whatsminer M30S-88T has 3 built-in mining boards, each of which has 148 pieces of Samsung 8nm ASIC chips, a total of 444 chips

Whatsminer M30S-88T configuration

Open the box and check that the miner wires have not fallen off or abnormal noises. Plug in a power cable and a network cable. Enter the control panel of the local network router to find the IP address named "MicroBT" or use the MAC address of the network card or download the Whatsminer management tool (WhatsMiner Tool). Find the IP address of the miner.

Open the browser and enter the IP address of the miner found in the address bar (multiple miners can be directly operated in the Whatsminer management tool) to enter the login page. The default username and password are both: admin, enter the miner control panel ▼


Click "Configuration / CGMiner Configuration" on the upper menu bar to enter the pool setting interface to modify the pool information ▼


  • Modify "Pool 1" main mining pool address
  • Modify "Pool 1 worker" miner name (see the pool help)
  • Modify "Pool 1 password" miner password (any alphanumeric)
  • Modify the backup pools "Pool 2" and "Pool 3" as required. After setting, click the "Save & Apply" button to save and apply the set configuration.

One thing to note is that you need to click the address bar of the mining pool when modifying the mining pool, and select "Custom" in the drop-down menu to modify the address ▼


Click "status / Overview" to view information such as system and firmware version.

Click "Configuration / Interfaces" to change the default IP address acquisition method from automatic acquisition to static IP address ▼


Click "status / CGminer Status" to return to the homepage to check the current running status of the mining machine, select "system / reboot" to restart the mining machine ▼


Whatsminer M30S-88T testing data

Test ambient noise value 44 dB ▼


The Whatsminer M30S-88T will automatically tune frequency within half an hour after it is turned on. At this stage, the hashrate fluctuates at 24T. After half an hour, the program will automatically restart. The computing power value will reach the standard. The mining machine runs normally. Temperature conditions: The mining board temperature is 71-72 degrees, the air inlet is 25.6 degrees, the air outlet is 60.4 degrees, and the side temperature of the mining machine is 36.1 degrees ▼

When the whole machine is running normally, the noise level is 85.7 decibels, and the running power consumption is 3345W, which is consistent with the officially announced 3344W ▼


After Cybtc tested the Whatsminer M30S-88T for 24 hours, the hashrate is as follows: The average hashrate displayed on the console is about 88.41T ▼


The hashrate received by the mining pool for 24 hours is 89.11T, and the curve is stable. The power consumption ratio of Whatsminer M30S-88T is calculated to be 37.53W/T ▼


Whatsminer M30S-88T evaluation summary

  • The running state of Whatsminer M30S-88T continues the previous characteristics of "stable". The miner runs stably during long-term testing, and the fluctuations of hashrate, power consumption, and temperature are small.

  • The improved power supply reduces the volume and weight, which brings certain convenience to the operation and maintenance of the mining farm.

  • The inconsistent fan interface on the front and rear of the mining machine will cause some troubles to the fan spare parts in the later period and hope that there will be improvements in the later mass production.

  • The official said that the M30 series will also have other models, the specific parameters will be announced later.

At this point, the evaluation of Whatsminer M30S-88T is over. The standalone 88T hash power of the Whatsminer M30S Bitcoin mining machine and the power consumption ratio of 37.55W/T have really shocked us.
